Claire Barnes’ world is turned upside down when her husband goes on a business trip and never returns. Feeling like she could find clues the police might miss, she starts her own investigation along with her best friend Drew. With every clue found, she discovers that Greg may not be the man she thought she married and realizes that the truth behind his disappearance may never be revealed.
When I see a novel with a synopsis like this, I think to myself that it’s going to be a book where the husband disappears, the wife mopes, searches for him and then there’s a happily ever after. I was totally wrong and I never in a million years would have guessed how this book ends. Kate Moretti didn’t have Claire Barnes mope. She went through the stages of grief and what she was going through affected everyone around her from her two children to her friend Sarah that lives in California. This novel is a mix of suspense and mystery with an emotional complexity that I’ve only ever encountered in works by Nicholas Sparks. It feels real! So real in fact that it pulled on my heartstrings and at times I felt I was reading a work of nonfiction or that maybe the author experienced this somehow. I look forward to more from Kate Moretti. She has totally blown me away! If I could give more than five stars, I would.
