Guest Blog: Kiki Howell – A Perfect Fall Day

A Perfect Fall Day

I love fall, and all the colors and cool weather that comes along with it. Not to mention all the stuff made with apple cider and pumpkin, etc. I have lots of things I like to do in the fall. So, thought I’d compose what my perfect day would entail. Follow along and see what you might enjoy, what you might like to try, and maybe what you’d never do! LOL

So, first, I’d get to sleep in, all warm and toasty in my favorite pajamas. They look like a hoodie that extends to the ground. Same material too. So comfortable I wish I could live in them. When I do get up, I like to write, right away. So, with fall here, and the lake we live on pretty empty with the end of the hot temperatures, I’d go down, pick an empty dock, and lay out a blanket. With my trusty laptop I could write there with the bright colors of the fall leaves reflecting in the ripples on the water. Hey, it’s my dream, so I want a gentle but cool breeze so I can wear one on my favorite hoodies. Can’t forget the mug of pumpkin spice coffee and apple cider donut beside me. Right, in my dream I’m not diabetic either. I’m eating the whole thing instead of a few bites *winks* And, I’m have the full-on sugary Starbucks coffee delivered right to me! My Dream!

Brandywine Falls Fall 2014After writing a while, I want to meet a friend for lunch. I don’t care where. I enjoy just about any place. And, I hate to be the one that has to choose. Anyway, we then take a autumn stroll. My new favorite place is Brandywine Falls here in Northeast Ohio. I’ve already been there this year a couple of times, hence the picture below! Sorry for the angle, you have to hang out over this railing to get a good picture of it. My husband said the other day that some of the brighter trees look like fireworks. He’s right. And, I especially love the ones that seem to have all the brightest reds and oranges and yellows in them in patches. I know nothing about trees, which ones turn when and what color and all that, but I love coming across whatever that one is.

We’d find a semi-secluded spot at some point and sit a spell to talk.

Once I got home, I’d make the special apple dumpling for dinner. Every year in the fall when I was young, one night my mom would make apple dumplings for dinner. Warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, oh yum! I try to carry on the tradition most years here. My husband and boys and I would actually sit at the table to have a meal. It would be a special occasion then. With two boys in high school among other things, it so rarely happens. Even if a few of us get to eat together, we just plop on the couch or a bed in one of the boy’s rooms. Sorry, back to the fantasy…

After dinner, I like to sit out on my swing on the patio, and read a while. Since this is my day, the weather is perfect. I like to be all bundled up still in my hoodie or long sweater, and a little chilled enough to want to throw a blanket over my legs. Lets’ make the book a sweet, maybe Halloween-themed, romance. You’ll see why in a minute. Add a nice cup of tea to finish until the sun sets enough that I can no longer read.

Later, our traditional fall snack of witch’s gorp in the cauldron on the coffee table and hot chocolate in our mugs, I’d plop in a horror movie with anyone I could talk into watching it with me. It’s my dream, I’m not going to be alone! LOL Okay, I’ll even take alone as I usually do. Of course, you only care what witch’s gorp is, right? It’ so easy no recipe is even needed. Get pre-made caramel corn, like Crunch n’ Munch, add in milk duds and candy corn (or whatever combo sounds best to you), then drizzle with a big, melted Hershey Bar. Toss a little and serve in a cauldron laced with gummy worms.

Full moon high in the sky, I’ll probably have to go out to soak in some of its energy before I crawl back into pajamas and into bed.  Now, in the real world, this would never all happen in one day. I can’t seem to talk Starbucks into delivery or my body into processing refined sugars anyway! But, I can assure you that over the course of the season, I’ll have done it all, even if just nibbled on that donut and brewed my own coffee. The walks and all, I’ll do them a few times.

When David stumbles into Myrissa’s Wiccan Supply Shoppe — the man bruised and bloody, complaining of strange occurrences and true night terrors — she agrees to help him. After studying his clouded aura and listening to his story, she believes he’s been cursed, bound to a succubus.

Agreeing to come home with him, cleanse his apartment and try to banish the sexual predator, she gathers her supplies. What she witnesses and battles though proves darker and more seductive, than she could’ve ever imagined. Will her magic be enough? Or will she also fall prey to the dark and violent seduction of a demon?

Warning: This story is Dark Erotica/Dark Fantasy Horror involving a succubus. It contains a mix of sex and violence as well as mind control and magic during such acts.

Soul Lights, A Hallowe’en Romance of an Erotic Danse Macabre

Blurb:

Lighting a soul light in a cemetery on Hallowe’en hoping to catch a glimpse of her mother in the danse macabre, Nina’s sadness weighs her down. Then something shimmers on the edge of the tree line. Called to it, she lets a spirt whose flesh is hot and solid but invisible, like no spirit she’s encountered before, lead her into the woods.

With sensations of Deja Vu, she immediately trusts him but knows not why. Wanting that dangerous reach for life that comes only through skin on skin contact, she gives into her needs, outside, against a tree, at the whim of this spirit who feels like a real flesh and blood man. But, secrets await her once Kailen’s spirit materializes fully. And, who steps through the portal next with a Hallowe’en gift will change her life forever…

Genres: Erotic, Paranormal Romance; Hallowe’en

Spelled

Blurb:

When Sandra’s aunt discovers a dark and disturbing spell during a ritual in her store, Sandra flies to California at her families urging. What she never expected was a dark-haired, silver-eyed man to walk into the store and propose the most insane of ideas to her – that they were spelled, generations ago, by a dark warlock.

The implications of this history lesson are as complicated as they are startling, and their only options are not all that clear. Real or magick, there is an obvious attraction between Sandra and Daniel. Together their powers are strong, and their options appear limited.

Sandra and Daniel have only one night to find a way to not only to save their families magick, but also to save the earth from a magick-al catastrophe. They must put their minds, their bodies, their magick, and maybe even their hearts on the line, or all could be lost.

Working Out the Kinks

Blurb:

The First Book In The Erotic World Of Pagan Romance

Can an unconventional sex life a couple experimented with before their breakup be the one thing that might just spark life back into their relationship after months of being apart?
Can a sex magick ritual combined with this BDSM lifestyle help a man win back the woman he loves?
Can he earn back her trust by putting her in a situation where she has to trust him with her safety and emotional well-being?

Making an appointment with his ex-girlfriend under a fake name, David buys himself one hour to get her attention. Hoping to apologize and remind her of their time together, he intends to do whatever he has to in order to make Meredith, a practicing Wiccan, forgive him for being idiot enough to have listened to those around him and choosing his political aspirations over love.

Meredith is resistant to let David anywhere near her heart again. Desperate, David plays all his trump cards and suggests a sexual magick ritual that incorporates the BDSM lifestyle he and Meredith used to experiment with. The methods he uses may be unconventional, like sensory deprivation and sensation play intended to build trust and to achieve altered states of consciousness. David is more than willing to do whatever it takes if he can just get Meredith to agree.

Will Meredith give in to David and put the past behind them?
Can David truly give everything he has ever known and strived for in order to be with his beloved witch?

Ever since she was young, Kiki Howell has loved to listen to a well-woven tale with real characters, inspired plots, and delightful resolutions. Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. To that end, she pursued her study of literature and writing, earning a bachelor’s degree in English. She then followed in a Master’s program in Creative Writing.

“After a long break having my boys, I finally just had to write again. And, as soon as I gave the stories the space, they entered it. It’s both awesome and humbling to find the words in my mind become characters on a page and create their lives.”

She has now had over forty stories published between eleven different publishers. She could not be more thrilled or grateful to see her creations polished and out in the real world. Please look around. Although, a bit of caution, most of her stories tend to hang out on the graphically sexy side of town.

In May, 2011, Kiki was chosen as an Ohioana Book Festival author for her novel, Torn Asunder. She’s also had three flash fiction stories win writing contests. In the fall of 2013, her novel, Hidden Salem, made the Amazon Top 100 Bestsellers Lists in 3 categories: Paranormal, Suspense and Ghosts.

Kiki resides in the Midwest with her incredibly handsome and talented, singer/songwriter husband and two children. When she is not writing, she is spending time with her family, reading, watching tv or knitting.
