Guest Blog & Giveaway: Mysti Parker

Shh, don’t tell Misty, but I’m sneaking in to rearrange her furniture and hide her toothbrush. I’ll switch the sugar for salt and put Vaseline on all the doorknobs. I’ll short-sheet the bed and give her dogs Vivarin. Finally, I’ll switch all the book sleeves on her hardback books. That’ll confuse her socks off.

Why would I do that, you ask? Because Misty is my not-so-evil twin. Which makes me… now you get it. Actually, I’m here to say Happy Birthday Top Shelf! And since Thanksgiving is tomorrow, I’m especially thankful for all the wonderful friends I’ve met online like Misty who offer their support and encouragement to new authors like me.

Some days, this writing thing feels like work, but the load is lessened every time I see a kind comment or have a nice chat with great gals like Misty.

Just in time for the holiday season, you get a chance to win an e-copy (.pdf or Kindle) of my first novel, a fun fantasy romance that I think you’ll enjoy. Just follow my not-so-evil twin’s directions.

A Ranger’s Tale

Once upon a time an elven noblewoman longed to leave her gilded cage. A half-breed former pirate wanted nothing more than to escape his guilty past. Easier said than done…

In the fantasy world of Tallenmere, the high elf, Caliphany Aranea, nearly a century old, has never been allowed to travel farther than a few miles out of the capital city of Leogard. Her father, Sirius, leads the Mage Academy, and after losing his only son, he expects Caliphany to take his place one day. The trouble is, she doesn’t want to study magic and doubts she’ll ever be as good a wizard as her father. She dreams of leaving Leogard to explore the world and strike out on her own–lofty goals for Sirius’ daughter, who also happens to be King Leopold’s niece.

When two brutes at Leogard Harbor attempt to kidnap her while she dreams of faraway lands, half-elf ship captain and ranger, Galadin Trudeaux, comes to her rescue. From their first chance encounter, to the finale, where Caliphany must decide where her heart truly lies, she and Galadin will face more adventure, more love, more heartache, than they ever thought possible. Through it all, they discover the power of forgiveness and of a love that stands the test of time.

“Elves, wizards, and hot romance!” ~Lyn Horner, author of Darlin’ Druid

“…I was completely surprised by how involved I became in the story. The fantastical world created by the author became very real to me and as a reader that is a very good thing.” ~ Wendy Mitchell, You Gotta Read Reviews

Mysti Parker has hit one out of the ballpark …I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this world and this story which I read in a single sitting – I couldn’t put it down.” ~ WildAboutBones, Goodreads Reviewer

And to whet your appetite for things to come, here is a blurb and excerpt from Book Two of my Tallenmere series, Serenya’s Song, coming April, 2012!

Life moves at a slower pace in Summerwind. Jayden Ravenwing, former lead scout of the L.I.O.,  hopes to make a fresh start, away from the bustle of Leogard…and from Caliphany. He never planned to fall in love again so soon, especially with the enchanting Serenya Crowe, wife of the Earl of Summerwind. When a strange portal opens on the Crowe property, he is thrown into an investigation, knowing that if he fails, Serenya and everyone in Summerwind may die.

Serenya Crowe grew up with the burden of not knowing her birth father’s true identity. With an ability to interpret dreams and a birth defect that forces her to wear gloves, she’s endured gossip and the cruelty of her husband Sebastian. All she’s ever wanted was to live a quiet life and raise a family. When she meets Jayden Ravenwing, she knows immediately that he is her soul mate. Together, they must overcome evil forces from another realm and inside Serenya herself, if they ever hope to find true love.

From Chapter 13:

He broke away from our kiss, trying to catch his breath. “Serenya, we can’t do this.”

While his fingers encompassed my wrists, I stared into the sapphire depths of his eyes. This man embodied complete and utter tenderness—it resided in his voice, in his hands as they restrained mine, in the way he had held me like I was the most precious thing in the world.

My breath came in quick gasps, as I realized how completely un-tender my own behavior had just been. I jerked myself from his grasp and stepped back.

“I’m sorry,” I muttered and sped behind him. Heat burned my cheeks, but I retrieved my gloves from the ground and slipped them back on.

As I hurried to Charity and put my foot in the stirrup, Jayden said, “No, I’m the one who should apologize. It will not happen again.”

I climbed into the saddle and said nothing. A world of regret and shame settled on his face before he slowly turned and mounted his own horse. How could I explain to him that I wanted it to happen again? More than that—that I wanted him, all of him. And that his tenderness, his restraint, had meant more to me than he’d ever know?
